The Nash County Railroad operates from Rocky Mount through Nashville to Spring Hope, serving shippers in Nash County in east-central North Carolina.

The company – owned by the Gulf & Ohio Railways of Knoxville, Tennessee – began operations in 1985 following purchase of the line from CSX. (The Laurinburg & Southern Railroad and the Yadkin Valley Railroad are also owned and operated by Gulf & Ohio Railways.)

Commodities carried by the railroad are grain, fertilizer, scrap metal, steel plates, and LP gas.

Principal shippers are: Perdue Farms and Braswell Milling Co. of Nashville – feed mills; Rocky Mount Recyclers; Ferrell Gas – LP gas; Carolina Steel – steel plates; and Royster Clark – fertilizer.
